Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Guide – 1999 Toyota Sienna
Important Note: These instructions apply to vehicles equipped with a standard key ignition and factory-installed keyless entry systems. Follow each step carefully and complete actions within the specified time frames to ensure successful programming.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle Ensure the key is out of the ignition. The driver’s door must be open, all other doors closed, and the driver’s door unlocked.
- Step 2: Insert and Remove the Key Insert the key into the ignition cylinder without turning, then remove it.
- Step 3: Perform Initial Lock/Unlock Cycles (Within 40 Seconds) Using the driver’s door power lock switch, perform five full lock/unlock cycles, starting with lock. One cycle = lock → unlock Maintain a steady rhythm of about one cycle per second. After completing five cycles, close and reopen the driver’s door.
- Step 4: Repeat Lock/Unlock Cycles and Enter Programming Mode (Within 40 Seconds) Again, perform five full lock/unlock cycles with the power door lock switch, starting with lock. Insert the key into the ignition. Turn the key to the ON position (do not start the engine), then back to OFF. Repeat: turn to ON, then back to OFF again. Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 5: Confirm Entry into Programming Mode Within 3 seconds, the door locks should automatically cycle once. If the locks do not cycle, the vehicle did not enter programming mode. Return to Step 1 and try again.
- Step 6: Program the Remote(s) (Within 40 Seconds) For each remote you wish to program: Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 1 second. Immediately after releasing, press and hold the lock button alone for 2 seconds. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle once to confirm successful programming. If the locks do not cycle or cycle twice, the programming failed. Repeat this step.
- Step 7: Finalize Programming Repeat Step 6 for any additional remotes. When all remotes are programmed, close the driver’s door to exit programming mode.
