2000 Keyless Entry Remote Fob (Smart Key System)
Important Notice: The 2000 model is not equipped with onboard programming capability for keyless entry remote fobs. Programming must be performed using professional diagnostic tools by a qualified technician. Manual programming by the vehicle owner is not supported.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Confirm that the remote you intend to program is compatible with your vehicle’s keyless entry system.
- Step 2: Gather all existing remote fobs. Some systems require that all remotes be reprogrammed at the same time to avoid deactivation of older fobs.
- Step 3: Contact a certified technician or authorized service provider who has experience with remote fob programming and access to the appropriate diagnostic tools.
- Step 4: Schedule a service appointment. If your vehicle is still drivable, transporting it directly to the service provider may help reduce costs compared to requesting on-site service.
- Step 5: Upon arrival, the technician will connect a diagnostic interface to the vehicle’s onboard port. This tool communicates with the vehicle’s computer system and is essential for fob registration.
- Step 6: The technician will initiate the programming sequence using software specific to your vehicle’s system. This will allow the new remote to be securely paired with your vehicle.
- Step 7: Once the remote is successfully programmed, the technician will verify functionality by testing the lock, unlock, and panic features.
- Step 8: If multiple remotes are being programmed, each one will be added during the same session. All remotes not present may be removed from the system’s memory.
- Step 9: The technician will complete the session and confirm that all remotes function properly before disconnecting the diagnostic equipment.
- Step 10: Be sure to test all remotes yourself before leaving the service location to ensure successful pairing.
Additional Considerations:
Ownership Verification: If all remotes or keys are lost, be prepared to provide official proof of ownership such as the vehicle title or registration.
Ignition Key Note: The ignition key for this model also requires specialized programming equipment and cannot be programmed manually.
Remote Quantity Limits: Most systems support up to four remote fobs. Consult your owner's manual for capacity details.
System Reset Risk: Failing to reprogram all remotes during a session may result in lost access for previously programmed fobs.
