Programming Guide for 2000 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 2000 model does not support onboard programming for remote entry fobs. All programming must be completed by a trained professional using specialized diagnostic equipment connected to the vehicle’s onboard system.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Confirm Remote Programming Method Review your vehicle's specifications or owner’s manual to confirm that external programming by a technician is required for remote fob setup.
- Step 2: Obtain a Compatible Remote Fob Ensure that the remote you intend to program is fully compatible with your vehicle’s system. Using an incompatible remote may result in failed programming or limited functionality.
- Step 3: Find a Certified Technician Identify a qualified automotive technician who has access to the appropriate programming tools for your vehicle’s model year and system.
- Step 4: Collect Vehicle Information Prepare your vehicle’s VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), model year, and any existing remotes. This information may be needed during the programming session.
- Step 5: Check if the Vehicle is Drivable If your vehicle is operational, consider taking it directly to the technician's service location. This may be more cost-effective than requesting mobile service.
- Step 6: Schedule a Programming Appointment Contact the technician to arrange a time for the service. Confirm in advance what documentation may be required and whether additional remotes can be programmed during the same session.
- Step 7: Bring Valid Documentation Arrive with proof of ownership, such as your vehicle registration or title, and a valid photo ID. These may be required before programming can begin.
- Step 8: Technician Connects Diagnostic Tools The technician will connect specialized electronic equipment to your vehicle’s onboard diagnostic port (OBD-II) to access the keyless entry system.
- Step 9: Perform Remote Fob Programming Using the appropriate software and hardware, the technician will program the remote fob to communicate with your vehicle’s control module.
- Step 10: Confirm Remote Operation After programming, test the remote to ensure all functions work correctly, including lock, unlock, and trunk release.
Additional Considerations:
All Remotes May Need Programming: Some systems will erase existing remotes during setup. Be sure to bring all remotes you wish to use.
Battery Readiness: Always use a remote with a fresh, functional battery to avoid communication errors.
System Limitations: Check if your vehicle has a maximum number of allowed remotes.
Programming Duration: Most professional programming sessions take between 15–30 minutes.
Prepare a Backup: If you’re replacing or adding a remote, consider programming a spare during the same appointment for future convenience.
