2000 GMC Sierra – Remote Key Fob Programming Instructions

This model supports manual remote programming using the ignition and door panel controls. Follow the steps below carefully to program one or more remotes.

Step 1: Make sure all doors are fully closed before beginning the programming process. This ensures the system will properly enter programming mode.

Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition, but do not turn it yet.

Step 3: On the driver’s door panel, press and hold the UNLOCK button. Continue to hold this button until Step 9.

Step 4: In a quick sequence, perform the following actions: Turn the ignition to the ON position (just before engine start). Then back to OFF. Again to ON. And back to OFF one final time.

Step 5: Release the UNLOCK button. If successful, the door locks will cycle — locking and unlocking automatically — indicating that the system is now in programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, restart the process from Step 1.

Step 6: Take the first remote and press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. Hold them for up to 30 seconds or until the door locks cycle once more to confirm successful programming.

Step 7: Immediately repeat the previous step for any additional remotes, one at a time. All remotes — including existing ones — must be reprogrammed during this session.

Step 8: Once all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition to the ON position once more to exit programming mode.

Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and test each remote to ensure they operate the door locks correctly.
