2000 Honda Insight – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: When you enter programming mode, all previously programmed remote fobs will be erased. To retain functionality, all remotes must be reprogrammed during the same session. Additionally, each step must be completed within 5 seconds of the previous one, or the system will exit programming mode automatically.

  • Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON (II) position. Do not start the engine.
  • Step 2: Press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button on one of the remote fobs. This remote does not need to be previously programmed.
  • Step 3: Turn the ignition back to the LOCK (0) position.
  • Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times using the same remote fob. You should complete a total of three ignition cycles.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition to the ON (II) position once more (a fourth time).
  • Step 6: Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button again on the same remote. At this point, the door locks should cycle automatically (lock then unlock), indicating the vehicle has entered programming mode.
  • Step 7: Within programming mode, press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on each remote you wish to program—including the original one. The door locks should cycle after each button press, confirming that the vehicle has accepted each remote.
  • Step 8: Turn the ignition back to the LOCK (0) position to exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Test all remotes by locking and unlocking the doors to confirm successful programming.
