Programming Guide for 2000 Mercury Mystique Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 2000 Mercury Mystique includes onboard programming functionality for keyless entry remote fobs. The system uses a programming connector located behind the glove box. All remotes must be programmed during the same session, or they will be erased from the system’s memory.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure that all vehicle doors are closed completely.
  • Step 2: Insert the ignition key and turn it to the RUN or ACCESSORY (ACC) position. Do not start the engine.
  • Step 3: Locate the programming connector positioned behind the glove box. To access it, you may need to open or remove the glove box carefully.
  • Step 4: Using a small jumper wire or a paperclip, momentarily connect the two terminals inside the programming connector. Once the connection is made, the horn will chirp once, indicating that the vehicle has successfully entered programming mode.
  • Step 5: Within a few seconds, press any button on the first keyless remote fob. The horn will chirp again to confirm that the remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 6: Press any button on the second remote fob (if applicable) within a few seconds. The horn will chirp once more to confirm that the second remote has been accepted.
  • Step 7: After all desired remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
  • Step 8: The horn will chirp one final time, indicating that the programming mode has ended.
  • Step 9: Remove the jumper wire from the programming connector and restore the glove box to its original position if necessary.
  • Step 10: Test each remote to ensure full functionality of the lock and unlock buttons.

Additional Considerations: Program all remotes during the same session. Any remote not included will no longer operate the vehicle and must be reprogrammed. Timing is essential. If there is too much delay between steps, the system may automatically exit programming mode. Make sure all remote batteries are in good condition to prevent failed programming attempts.
