Programming Guide for 2000 Mercury Sable Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 2000 Mercury Sable allows for onboard programming of keyless entry remote fobs using a timed ignition cycle. During this process, all remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remote that is missed will need to be reprogrammed.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver's seat and ensure all vehicle doors are securely closed.
- Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the RUN or ACCESSORY (ACC) position. Do not start the engine.
- Step 3: Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition key from the OFF position to the RUN position eight times, ending with the key in the RUN position on the eighth cycle. This action must be done quickly and smoothly. After completing this, the door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm the system is in programming mode.
- Step 4: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first keyless remote fob. The door locks will cycle again to confirm that the first remote has been successfully programmed.
- Step 5: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the second keyless remote fob (if applicable). The door locks will cycle once more to confirm programming of the second remote.
- Step 6: Once all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
- Step 7: The door locks will cycle again, indicating the end of the programming session.
- Step 8: Remove the key from the ignition and test all remotes to ensure that the lock and unlock functions are working properly.
Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed during one session. Any remote not included will be erased from the system’s memory and must be reprogrammed. Timing is important. Ensure each remote is pressed promptly within the given time frame to prevent the vehicle from exiting programming mode. Check the battery levels in each remote before beginning the programming process to avoid any issues.
