2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport – Remote Fob Programming Guide
Important Notice: This model supports onboard programming for registering keyless entry remotes. Up to two remotes can be programmed during a single session. Please follow each step precisely and perform all actions quickly for proper synchronization.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Access the diagnostic connector located beneath the driver’s dashboard area.
- Step 2: Insert the ignition key but keep it in the OFF position without turning it.
- Step 3: Locate terminals 1 and 4 in the diagnostic connector. Confirm both terminals contain metal contact points.
- Step 4: Using an appropriate jumper wire, bridge terminals 1 and 4. This connection must remain in place throughout the entire programming session.
- Step 5: Within 10 seconds of connecting the jumper, rotate the ignition key to the ACCESSORY (ACC) position and then immediately back to OFF. Repeat this action a total of three times in rapid succession — all three cycles should be completed in under two seconds. Confirmation: The vehicle’s doors will lock and unlock once, signaling entry into programming mode.
- Step 6: Press the LOCK button on the first remote three times within 10 seconds. The door locks will cycle once to confirm it has been programmed.
- Step 7: If you are programming a second remote, repeat Step 6 within the next 60 seconds. The door locks will again cycle once upon successful pairing.
- Step 8: Once programming is finished, remove the jumper wire from the connector.
- Step 9: Take the key out of the ignition to exit programming mode.
- Step 10: Test all programmed remotes to ensure they function correctly.
