2000 Subaru Outback Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 2000 Subaru Outback supports onboard programming for its keyless entry remote fobs. You can register up to four remotes during a single session. Follow the steps below precisely for successful programming.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure all doors—including the trunk or liftgate—are closed and unlocked.
- Step 2: Open and close the driver’s door once.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition. Turn it from the OFF position to the ON position (so that dashboard lights turn on), then back to OFF—ten times rapidly within 15 seconds.
- Step 4: After the tenth cycle, you should hear a single horn beep, confirming that the vehicle is now in programming mode.
- Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door again to proceed.
- Step 6: Press any button on the remote you wish to program. The horn will beep twice, indicating successful registration.
- Step 7: To program additional remotes, open and close the driver’s door once for each additional fob, then press a button on the new remote. Repeat this process for up to four remotes total.
- Step 8: When you’ve finished programming, remove the key from the ignition. The horn will beep three times, signaling the system has exited programming mode.
- Step 9: Wait about two minutes before testing the remotes.
- Step 10: Press the Lock button on a programmed remote. The doors should lock and the alarm system should arm.
- Step 11: Press the Unlock button once to disarm the alarm and unlock the driver’s door. Press it again to unlock all other doors and the trunk.
