Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Guide – 2000 Toyota Sienna
Important Note: These instructions are for vehicles equipped with a factory keyless entry system and a traditional key ignition. All steps must be completed in the correct order and within the time limits for successful programming.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle Remove the key from the ignition. Make sure the driver’s door is open, all other doors are closed, and the driver’s door is unlocked.
- Step 2: Insert and Remove the Key Insert the key into the ignition without turning it, then immediately remove it.
- Step 3: Perform Initial Lock/Unlock Sequence (Within 40 Seconds) Using the power lock switch on the driver’s door, perform five full lock/unlock cycles, beginning with the lock position. One cycle = Lock → Unlock Maintain a steady rhythm, approximately one cycle per second. After completing the cycles, close and reopen the driver’s door.
- Step 4: Repeat Lock/Unlock Sequence and Enter Programming Mode (Within 40 Seconds) Again, perform five full lock/unlock cycles using the driver’s door switch, starting with lock. Insert the key into the ignition. Turn the key to the ON position (do not start the engine), then back to OFF. Repeat: turn to ON, then back to OFF again. Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 5: Wait for Programming Confirmation Within 3 seconds, the door locks should automatically cycle once. If they do not cycle, the system did not enter programming mode. Return to Step 1 and try again.
- Step 6: Program the Remote(s) (Within 40 Seconds) For each remote you wish to program: Press and hold both the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 1 second. Immediately after releasing, press and hold the lock button for 2 seconds. The door locks should cycle once to confirm successful programming. If the locks cycle twice or not at all, repeat the process. The remote was not accepted.
- Step 7: Program Additional Remotes Repeat Step 6 for each additional remote you wish to add.
- Step 8: Exit Programming Mode Close the driver’s door to complete the programming process.
