Programming Guide for 2001 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: Before beginning the programming process, ensure that all remote fobs you intend to use are present. The system will erase all previously stored remotes during programming. Any remote not reprogrammed during this session will no longer function. This procedure applies only to keyless entry remotes and does not include ignition key programming.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Make sure all vehicle doors are fully closed before starting.
  • Step 2: Insert the ignition key and turn it to the ON position (as far as it turns without starting the engine).
  • Step 3: Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key.
  • Step 4: Press and hold the UNLOCK button on the driver’s side power door lock switch.
  • Step 5: While holding the UNLOCK button, insert the key into the ignition and immediately remove it. Do not turn the key.
  • Step 6: Repeat Step 5: insert and remove the key a second time, again without turning it.
  • Step 7: Insert the key into the ignition a third time and leave it in place. Do not turn the key.
  • Step 8: Release the UNLOCK button. The vehicle will emit three chimes, confirming that it has entered programming mode.
  • Step 9: On the first remote fob, press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously. Hold for approximately 15 seconds until the vehicle chimes twice, indicating successful programming.
  • Step 10: Repeat Step 9 for each additional remote. The system supports programming of up to four remotes.
  • Step 11: Remove the ignition key to exit programming mode.
  • Step 12: Test each remote to ensure all functions—such as lock, unlock, and panic—operate correctly.

Additional Considerations:

Maximum Remote Capacity: Up to four remotes can be programmed to the vehicle.

Battery Check: Ensure each remote has a working battery before beginning the process.

Ignition Key Programming: This procedure does not cover ignition key programming. Specialized tools and professional assistance are required for that task.

Repeat if Needed: If the vehicle does not respond as described, restart the procedure from Step 1.
