2001 Honda Insight – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: Entering programming mode will erase all previously stored remotes from the system. To maintain full remote functionality, be sure to reprogram all keyless entry remotes during the same session. Also, it is critical to complete each step within 5 seconds of the previous one, or the vehicle will automatically exit programming mode.
Programming Procedure
- Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON (II) position. The dashboard lights should illuminate, but the engine should not be started.
- Step 2: Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on a remote fob. This remote does not need to be pre-programmed—it can be new or unrecognized.
- Step 3: Turn the ignition key to the LOCK (0) position.
- Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times using the same remote fob. After the third repetition, you will have cycled the ignition three times total, pressing a button on the remote each time. Be sure to perform each cycle within 5 seconds of the previous one to keep the system active.
- Step 5: Turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position a fourth time. This final cycle enters programming mode.
- Step 6: Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the same remote once again. If done correctly, the power door locks will cycle (lock then unlock) to indicate the vehicle has successfully entered remote programming mode.
- Step 7: Within 10 seconds, press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the next remote fob you want to program. The door locks should cycle again, confirming successful registration. Repeat this step for each additional remote, up to the maximum number supported (typically 3 or 4 remotes total).
- Step 8: Wait 5 seconds after programming the final remote, then turn the ignition switch to the LOCK (0) position to exit programming mode.
- Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and close all doors.
- Step 10: Test each remote to confirm that all buttons work as expected. Ensure each fob can lock and unlock the doors from outside the vehicle.
