Programming Guide for 2001 Mazda 626 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 2001 Mazda 626 supports on-board programming for keyless entry remotes. All transmitters must be programmed during the same session. Follow the steps below carefully and complete the procedure within the required time frame.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 2: Make sure all doors are fully closed.
  • Step 3: Open the driver’s door and leave it open throughout the procedure.
  • Step 4: Within 24 seconds, complete the following sequence: a. Insert the key into the ignition. b. Turn the key to the ON position (do not start the engine), then turn it OFF. c. Repeat Step b two more times (for a total of three ON/OFF cycles). d. Remove the key from the ignition. e. Press the driver door frame button (the black rubber switch on the door frame that senses door closure) three times.
  • Step 5: A buzzing sound, chime, or door lock/unlock cycle should follow, indicating the system has entered programming mode. If no sound is heard, wait 40 seconds and repeat the process from Step 4.
  • Step 6: Program the remotes: Press any button twice on the first remote. A chime, buzz, or door lock/unlock cycle will confirm successful programming. If only one remote is available, repeat this step two additional times using the same remote. If two remotes are available, repeat this step twice using the second remote.
  • Step 7: Press the driver door frame button once. You should hear two chimes, buzzes, or two door lock/unlock cycles, confirming the successful completion of programming.
