Programming Guide for 2001 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming for standard keyless entry remote fobs using the ignition key. All remote transmitters must be programmed during the same session. Remotes not included will be erased from the system’s memory.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the vehicle with all doors closed. Have all remote fobs you wish to program readily available.
  • Step 2: Insert the ignition key but do not start the engine.
  • Step 3: Within three seconds, turn the key from the OFF position to the RUN position four times, ending in the RUN position on the fourth turn. This must be done quickly and smoothly.
  • Step 4: The door locks will automatically lock and then unlock, indicating the system has entered programming mode.
  • Step 5: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first remote fob. The locks will cycle again to confirm successful programming.
  • Step 6: If you have a second remote, press any button on it within 20 seconds of programming the first. The locks will cycle again to confirm registration.
  • Step 7: Repeat Step 6 for any additional remotes, ensuring each is programmed within 20 seconds of the previous one.
  • Step 8: Once all remotes are programmed, turn the ignition to the OFF position. The vehicle will exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Remove the key and test each remote to ensure lock and unlock functions operate properly.
  • Step 10: If any remote does not function, repeat the entire process from Step 1, making sure each step is performed within the required time.

Additional Considerations: All remotes must be included in the same session. Any that are not programmed will be removed from memory. Timing is critical. Delays may cause the system to exit programming mode. Ensure all remotes have working batteries before beginning the procedure.
