2001 Mercury Villager

Programming Guide for 2001 Mercury Villager Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 2001 Mercury Villager supports onboard programming of keyless entry remote fobs using the vehicle’s ignition and power lock system. All remotes must be programmed in the same session. Any remote not programmed will be erased and will require reprogramming.

Expanded Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Enter the vehicle and close and lock all doors using the power lock switch on the driver’s door. Ensure that all doors are fully closed and securely locked before proceeding with the programming steps.
  • Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and remove it (do not turn it) at least 6 times within 10 seconds. The key should be inserted and removed quickly. Once this step is completed, the tail lamps will flash, indicating that the original code has been erased and the vehicle is ready for new programming.
  • Step 3: After Step 2, insert the key back into the ignition and turn it to the ACC (accessory) position. Do not start the engine—keep the key in the ACC position for the next steps.
  • Step 4: Press the LOCK button on the first keyless remote. Once the button is pressed, the tail lamps will flash to confirm that the first remote has been successfully programmed into the system.
  • Step 5: To add additional remotes, unlock and then lock the doors using the power lock switch on the driver’s door. This step is required to prepare the vehicle for the next remote to be programmed.
  • Step 6: Press the LOCK button on the second keyless remote within 20 seconds of locking the doors. The tail lamps will flash again to confirm that the second remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 7: If you have more remotes to add, repeat Step 5 (unlock and lock the doors) and Step 6 for each additional remote. Remember, all remotes must be programmed during the same session for the system to recognize them.
  • Step 8: Once all remotes are programmed, open the driver’s door and turn the ignition to the OFF position to exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Test each remote by pressing the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons to ensure they are functioning correctly. Check the range and responsiveness of the remotes to ensure they are operating as expected.

Additional Considerations: Programming must be done in one session. Any remote not programmed will be erased and will need to be reprogrammed. Follow the timing strictly. If there is a delay between steps, the system may exit programming mode, requiring a restart. Make sure the batteries in each remote are functioning before beginning the programming process. Weak batteries may cause programming issues.
