2001 Mitsubishi Montero – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs. Follow the instructions carefully to ensure successful registration. Up to four remotes can be programmed.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Locate the data port beneath the driver's side dashboard, typically to the right of the steering column.
- Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and leave it in the OFF position. Do not start or turn the key.
- Step 3: Identify terminals 1 and 4 on the data port. Ensure that metal contact pins are present in both terminals.
- Step 4: Using a suitable jumper wire, connect terminals 1 and 4. Leave this connection in place throughout the programming process. Double-check that the correct terminals are connected.
- Step 5: Within 10 seconds of connecting the jumper wire, press the hazard light switch six times. The vehicle’s doors should lock and unlock once, indicating that the system has entered programming mode.
- Step 6: Press the LOCK button on the remote fob you wish to program three times within 10 seconds. The doors will lock and unlock once to confirm successful programming.
- Step 7: To program additional remotes (up to four total), repeat Step 6 for each remote within one minute. After each remote is programmed, the doors will lock and unlock once as confirmation.
- Step 8: Once all remotes have been programmed, disconnect the jumper wire and remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 9: Test each remote to confirm that all programmed fobs operate the door locks correctly.
