2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 2001 Montero Sport allows onboard programming for registering remote fobs. You may program up to two remotes. Follow the steps below carefully, and perform each action quickly to ensure the system responds properly.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Find the diagnostic connector under the dashboard on the driver’s side.
- Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition, keeping it in the OFF position. Do not turn it.
- Step 3: Identify terminals 1 and 4 inside the diagnostic connector. Ensure these terminals contain metal contacts.
- Step 4: Use an appropriate jumper wire to connect terminals 1 and 4. Keep this jumper in place throughout the programming session. Be sure to double-check terminal placement before proceeding.
- Step 5: Within 10 seconds of connecting the jumper wire, turn the ignition to the ACCESSORY (ACC) position and immediately back to OFF. Repeat this motion three times in total, completing all cycles in under two seconds. System Response: If done correctly, the doors will lock and unlock once, indicating the vehicle is ready to accept remote codes.
- Step 6: Press the LOCK button on the remote you wish to program three times within 10 seconds. The door locks will cycle once to confirm successful registration.
- Step 7: If a second remote is being programmed, repeat Step 6 within 60 seconds. The door locks will again cycle once to indicate acceptance.
- Step 8: When all remotes have been registered, remove the jumper wire from the data port.
- Step 9: Take the key out of the ignition to complete the programming session.
- Step 10: Test all remotes to ensure the lock and unlock functions are operating correctly.
