2001 Subaru Impreza Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Note: Up to four remote fobs can be programmed to your vehicle. Make sure all doors, the trunk or liftgate are closed and unlocked before beginning.

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat. Ensure all doors and the trunk are closed and unlocked.
  • Step 2: Open and then close the driver’s door once.
  • Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition. Turn the key from the OFF position to the ON position and back to OFF ten times rapidly. Do not start the engine—just turn the key until the dash lights come on, then turn it off. Note: This must be completed within 15 seconds.
  • Step 4: If performed correctly, the horn will sound once, indicating the vehicle has entered programming mode.
  • Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door one time.
  • Step 6: Press any button on the first remote you wish to program. The horn will sound twice to confirm successful programming of the remote.
  • Step 7: To program additional remotes (up to four total), repeat Step 5 and then press a button on the next remote. The horn will sound after each successful remote registration.
  • Step 8: When all desired remotes have been programmed, remove the key from the ignition. The horn will sound three times to indicate that the vehicle has exited programming mode.
  • Step 9: Wait approximately two minutes, then test each remote to confirm functionality.
  • Step 10: Press the Lock button to ensure the doors lock and the alarm system activates.
  • Step 11: Press the Unlock button once to disarm the alarm and unlock the driver’s door. Press it a second time to unlock the remaining doors and the trunk.
