2001 Toyota RAV4 Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Step-by-Step Programming Guide (Factory System)
Important Notice: This procedure allows you to program a new keyless entry remote to the vehicle’s factory receiver. A maximum of four remotes can be stored. All steps must be followed precisely within the specified timeframes for successful programming.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Begin with the driver's door open and unlocked. All other doors should be closed. Ensure the key is removed from the ignition.
- Step 2: (Within 5 seconds) Insert the key into the ignition without turning, then remove it. Insert the key again without turning, then remove it.
- Step 3: (Within 40 seconds) Close the driver’s door, then reopen it. Close the driver’s door again, then reopen it. Insert the key into the ignition without turning, then remove it.
- Step 4: (Within 40 seconds) Close the driver’s door, then reopen it. Close the driver’s door again, then reopen it. Close the door and leave it closed. Insert the key into the ignition and leave it inserted. Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine), then turn it OFF. Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 5: Within 3 seconds of removing the key, the power door locks should lock and then unlock automatically. This indicates you have entered programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, return to Step 1 and repeat the process.
- Step 6: (Within 40 seconds per remote) For each remote you wish to program: Press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for approximately 1.5 seconds. Release both buttons, then press and hold only the LOCK button for 2 seconds. After releasing the LOCK button: If the door locks lock and unlock once, the remote has been successfully programmed. If the locks cycle twice, the attempt failed. Repeat Step 6 for that remote.
- Step 7: Once all remotes are programmed, open the driver's door to exit programming mode.
Additional Information:
- Up to four remotes can be stored in the system. Programming a fifth remote will overwrite the oldest stored remote. This procedure does not affect ignition keys; it programs only the remote transmitter functions (lock/unlock). Ensure the vehicle battery and remote battery are fully charged during programming. If you experience repeated failure, confirm your remote is compatible with the 2001 RAV4's factory system.
