2002 Honda Insight – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: Entering the programming mode will erase all previously stored remotes, meaning none of the old fobs will work until they are reprogrammed. To avoid losing access, be sure to program all remote fobs during the same session. Additionally, you must complete each step within 5 seconds of the previous one, or the system will cancel programming mode and you will need to start over.
Programming Steps
- Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON (II) position. Do not start the engine—just turn the key until the dashboard lights come on.
- Step 2: Press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the remote fob you want to program. Note: This remote can be new or unrecognized by the vehicle.
- Step 3: Turn the ignition back to the LOCK (0) position.
- Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times, for a total of three full cycles of ignition ON > remote button press > ignition OFF. Be sure to use the same remote for all three cycles, and stay within the 5-second limit between steps.
- Step 5: After the third cycle, turn the ignition to the ON (II) position one more time to enter programming mode.
- Step 6: Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button again on the same remote. If the doors lock and then unlock automatically, the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 7: Within 10 seconds, press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on any additional remotes you want to program. Each time you press a button, the door locks should cycle again, confirming successful programming of that remote. Repeat this step for each remote you wish to register.
- Step 8: Wait a few seconds, then turn the ignition to the LOCK (0) position to exit programming mode.
- Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and close all doors.
- Step 10: Test all programmed remotes to ensure they properly lock and unlock the doors.
