Programming Guide for 2002 Mazda 626 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 2002 Mazda 626 supports on-board programming for remote key fobs. All transmitters—both new and existing—must be programmed during the same session. The procedure must be completed within a limited time frame for successful entry into programming mode.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 2: Ensure all doors are fully closed.
  • Step 3: Open the driver’s door and leave it open for the duration of the procedure.
  • Step 4: Within 24 seconds, perform the following sequence: a. Insert the key into the ignition. b. Turn the key to the ON position (without starting the engine), then turn it OFF. c. Repeat Step b two more times (three ON/OFF cycles total). d. Remove the key from the ignition. e. Press the driver door frame switch (black rubber button that detects door closure) three times.
  • Step 5: A buzz, chime, or door lock/unlock action should occur, confirming entry into programming mode. If no response is heard, wait 40 seconds, then restart the procedure from Step 4.
  • Step 6: Program each remote by pressing any button twice on the transmitter. After each remote is accepted, a chime, buzz, or door lock/unlock cycle will confirm successful programming. If only one remote is available, repeat this step two additional times using the same remote. If two remotes are being programmed, repeat this step two more times using the second remote.
  • Step 7: Press the driver door frame switch once. You should hear two chimes, buzzes, or two door lock/unlock cycles, indicating the successful completion of programming.
