2002 Mercury Sable

Programming Guide for 2002 Mercury Sable Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 2002 Mercury Sable supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs. All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remote that is missed will be erased from the system and must be reprogrammed.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure that all doors are fully closed.
  • Step 2: Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch, but do not start the engine.
  • Step 3: Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition key from the OFF position to the RUN position eight times, ensuring the eighth time ends in the RUN position. Complete the cycles smoothly and quickly. After completing this, the door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
  • Step 4: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first keyless remote fob. The door locks will cycle again to confirm that the first remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 5: If you are programming a second keyless remote, press any button on the second remote within 20 seconds. The door locks will cycle once more to confirm the programming of the second remote.
  • Step 6: Once all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
  • Step 7: The door locks will cycle again, indicating that the programming session has ended.
  • Step 8: Remove the key from the ignition and test each remote to ensure that the lock and unlock functions are working as expected.

Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed in one session. Any remote not included will need to be reprogrammed. Timing is important. If you take too long between steps, the system will exit programming mode and you will need to start over. Check the batteries in all remote fobs to ensure they are functioning properly before starting the procedure.
