2002 Mercury Villager

Programming Guide for 2002 Mercury Villager Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: The 2002 Mercury Villager supports onboard programming of keyless entry remote fobs. All remotes must be programmed together in the same session. Any remote not included will be erased from memory and will need to be reprogrammed.

Expanded Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Enter the vehicle and close and lock all doors using the power lock switch on the driver’s door.
  • Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and remove it (do not turn it) at least 6 times within 10 seconds. The tail lamps will flash to indicate that the original code has been erased and the system is ready for programming.
  • Step 3: Insert the key back into the ignition and turn it to the ACC (accessory) position. Ensure that the key remains in the ACC position to proceed with the next steps.
  • Step 4: Press the LOCK button on the first keyless remote. The tail lamps will flash to confirm that the first remote has been successfully programmed into the vehicle’s system.
  • Step 5: To add additional remotes, unlock and then lock the doors using the power lock switch on the driver’s door. This step resets the system and prepares it for the next remote to be programmed.
  • Step 6: Press the LOCK button on the second keyless remote. The tail lamps will flash again to confirm that the second remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 7: Once all remotes have been programmed, open the driver’s door and turn the ignition to the OFF position. This exits the programming mode.
  • Step 8: Test each remote by pressing the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons to ensure that the remotes are functioning properly. Make sure that the remote lock and unlock actions work reliably and at the correct range.

Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed in the same session. Any remote not included will need to be reprogrammed. Ensure that each step is completed in the proper time frame. If too much time passes between steps, the system will exit programming mode, and you will need to restart the process. Check the batteries in each remote before beginning to ensure they are functioning properly.
