2002 Mitsubishi Montero – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs. You may program up to four remotes by following the steps below. Ensure you complete the process without interruptions for best results.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Locate the data port under the driver’s side dashboard, typically positioned to the right of the steering column.
- Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and leave it in the OFF position. Do not turn the key at this time.
- Step 3: Identify terminals 1 and 4 on the data port and confirm that they contain metal contact pins.
- Step 4: Connect terminals 1 and 4 using an appropriate jumper wire. Keep this wire connected for the entire duration of the programming process. Be certain you are connecting the correct terminals.
- Step 5: Within 10 seconds of connecting the jumper wire, press the hazard light switch six times. The vehicle doors should lock and unlock once, indicating the system has entered programming mode.
- Step 6: Press the LOCK button on the remote you want to program three times within 10 seconds. The doors will lock and unlock once to confirm the remote has been successfully programmed.
- Step 7: Repeat Step 6 for any additional remotes—up to four total, including any existing ones. Complete programming of all remotes within one minute. The doors will lock and unlock once for each remote programmed.
- Step 8: After programming is complete, disconnect the jumper wire and remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 9: Test each remote to confirm that it properly locks and unlocks the vehicle doors.
