2002 Subaru Forester Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Note: This procedure programs the remote functions for locking, unlocking, and arming the vehicle. You can program up to four remote fobs in a single session.
Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat with all doors, including the rear hatch, completely closed and unlocked.
- Step 2: Open the driver’s door once, then close it fully.
- Step 3: While holding down the brake pedal, insert the key into the ignition. Turn the key from the OFF position to the ON position (do not start the engine) and then back to OFF—ten times rapidly. Make sure to pause briefly at each position so that the dashboard lights activate when turning to ON. Complete all ten cycles within 15 seconds.
- Step 4: If done correctly, the horn will sound once, indicating that the vehicle has entered remote programming mode.
- Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door once more.
- Step 6: Press any button on the remote you wish to program. The horn will sound twice, confirming the remote was successfully registered.
- Step 7: To program another remote, repeat Step 5 (open and close the driver’s door), then press any button on the next remote. The horn will again beep twice to confirm successful programming. Repeat for up to four remotes.
- Step 8: When finished, remove the key from the ignition. The horn will sound three times, signaling the system has exited programming mode.
- Step 9: Wait approximately two minutes before testing the remotes.
- Step 10: Press the Lock button on a remote. The doors should lock, and the security system should arm.
- Step 11: Press Unlock once to disarm the system and unlock the driver’s door. Press Unlock a second time to unlock all remaining doors and the rear hatch.
