2003 Honda Insight – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: When you begin the programming process, the vehicle will erase all previously stored remotes. As a result, all remotes must be reprogrammed during the same session to retain full functionality. Additionally, each step must be completed within 5 seconds of the previous one. Delays may cause the system to exit programming mode, requiring you to start over.

Programming Procedure

  • Step 1: Insert your key into the ignition and turn it to the ON (II) position. This powers the electrical system without starting the engine.
  • Step 2: Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the remote fob you wish to program. This remote does not need to be previously paired with the vehicle.
  • Step 3: Turn the ignition to the LOCK (0) position.
  • Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3 two additional times (for a total of three cycles) using the same remote. You should complete these steps quickly—within 5 seconds of each other.
  • Step 5: Turn the ignition key to the ON (II) position once again to begin programming mode.
  • Step 6: Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button again on the same remote. If the doors lock and unlock automatically, this confirms the vehicle has successfully entered programming mode.
  • Step 7: Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on any additional remotes you wish to program. The door locks should cycle after each remote is accepted. You can program multiple remotes in the same session, but each one must be added now to retain functionality.
  • Step 8: Once all remotes are programmed, turn the ignition to the LOCK (0) position to exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and close all vehicle doors.
  • Step 10: Test each programmed remote to ensure proper function of the lock, unlock, and trunk buttons, if equipped.
