Programming Guide for 2003 Mercury Sable Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 2003 Mercury Sable supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs. All remotes must be programmed in the same session. Any remote not included will be erased from the system and will need to be reprogrammed.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure that all vehicle doors are securely closed.
- Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the RUN or ACCESSORY (ACC) position. Do not start the engine.
- Step 3: Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition key from the OFF position to the RUN position eight times, ending on the eighth cycle in the RUN position. Ensure that the cycles are performed quickly and smoothly. Upon successful entry into programming mode, the door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm that the vehicle is in programming mode.
- Step 4: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first keyless remote fob. The door locks will cycle again to confirm that the first remote has been successfully programmed.
- Step 5: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the second keyless remote (if applicable). The door locks will cycle again, confirming the programming of the second remote.
- Step 6: Once all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
- Step 7: The door locks will cycle one last time, indicating that the programming session has ended.
- Step 8: Remove the key from the ignition and test each remote to ensure that the lock and unlock functions are working correctly.
Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remote not included will need to be reprogrammed. Be mindful of the timing. If you take too long between steps, the system will automatically exit programming mode, and you will need to start over. Check the batteries in each remote before starting to ensure they are in good condition.
