2003 Mitsubishi Montero – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs. Up to four remotes can be programmed using the steps outlined below. Complete all steps in sequence for successful programming.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Locate the data port beneath the driver’s side dashboard, generally positioned to the right of the steering column.
  • Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and leave it in the OFF position. Do not turn or start the vehicle.
  • Step 3: Identify terminals 1 and 4 on the data port. Ensure both terminals contain metal contact pins.
  • Step 4: Using a suitable jumper wire, connect terminals 1 and 4. Leave the jumper wire connected throughout the entire programming process. Double-check that you are connecting the correct terminals.
  • Step 5: Within 10 seconds of connecting the jumper wire, press the hazard light switch six times. The vehicle’s doors should lock and unlock once, indicating that the system has entered programming mode.
  • Step 6: Press the LOCK button on the remote fob you wish to program three times within 10 seconds. The doors will lock and unlock once to confirm successful programming.
  • Step 7: To program additional remotes (up to four total), repeat Step 6 for each remote within one minute. The doors will lock and unlock once after each successful registration.
  • Step 8: After completing the programming process, disconnect the jumper wire from the data port.
  • Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 10: Test each remote to confirm that all programmed fobs operate the lock and unlock functions correctly.
