2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 2003 Montero Sport is equipped with an onboard programming feature that allows you to pair up to two remote fobs. Be sure to follow each step precisely and act quickly to ensure the system responds.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Locate the diagnostic connector beneath the driver’s side dashboard.
- Step 2: Insert the ignition key, leaving it in the OFF position. Do not turn the key.
- Step 3: Identify terminals 1 and 4 on the diagnostic connector and verify that both have metal contact pins.
- Step 4: Connect terminals 1 and 4 using a suitable jumper wire. This connection must remain in place during the entire programming process.
- Step 5: Within 10 seconds of connecting the jumper wire, turn the ignition to the ACC position and immediately return it to OFF. Repeat this action two more times, completing all three ACC-to-OFF cycles in under two seconds. Confirmation: If done correctly, the door locks will cycle once, indicating that the system is now in programming mode.
- Step 6: Press the LOCK button on the first remote control three times within 10 seconds. The door locks will cycle once to confirm successful registration.
- Step 7: To program a second remote, repeat Step 6 within 60 seconds. After successful programming, the locks will again cycle once.
- Step 8: When finished, disconnect the jumper wire from the diagnostic connector.
- Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition to exit programming mode.
- Step 10: Test all remotes to ensure they operate the door lock and unlock functions correctly.
