2003 Mitsubishi Outlander – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 2003 Outlander is equipped with onboard programming functionality that allows registration of up to four remote fobs. Follow the steps below precisely, completing each step in order without delays.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Locate the diagnostic data port underneath the driver’s side dashboard, typically positioned to the right of the steering column.
- Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition, but leave it in the OFF position. Do not start the vehicle.
- Step 3: Identify terminals 1 and 4 on the diagnostic connector and confirm they contain metal contact pins.
- Step 4: Using a suitable jumper wire, connect terminals 1 and 4. Leave the jumper wire connected for the duration of the programming procedure. Double-check terminal positions to avoid misconnection.
- Step 5: Within 10 seconds of connecting the jumper wire, press the hazard light switch six times in rapid succession. The doors should lock and unlock once, confirming that the system has entered programming mode.
- Step 6: Press the LOCK button on the first remote fob three times within 10 seconds. The doors will cycle once to indicate successful programming.
- Step 7: To program additional remotes (up to four total), repeat Step 6 for each one within one minute. After each successful registration, the doors will lock and unlock once to confirm.
- Step 8: Once all remotes are programmed, remove the jumper wire from the data port.
- Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 10: Test all remotes to ensure proper lock and unlock functionality.
