2003 Subaru Forester Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Note: These steps allow you to program the remote functions for locking, unlocking, and arming the alarm system. You can program up to four remote fobs during the same session.

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure all doors, including the rear hatch, are fully closed and unlocked.
  • Step 2: Open the driver’s door once, then close it fully.
  • Step 3: While holding the brake pedal down, insert the key into the ignition. Turn the key from the OFF position to the ON position (do not start the engine) and then back to OFF—ten times in rapid succession. The ON position should activate the dashboard lights. Complete all ten cycles within 15 seconds.
  • Step 4: If performed correctly, the horn will sound once, indicating that the vehicle has entered programming mode. '
  • Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door one time.
  • Step 6: Press any button on the remote you want to program. The horn will beep twice, confirming that the remote has been successfully registered.
  • Step 7: To program additional remotes, repeat Step 5 (open and close the driver’s door), then press a button on the next remote. The horn will again sound twice for each successfully programmed remote. You can program up to four remotes in total.
  • Step 8: Once all remotes have been programmed, remove the key from the ignition. The horn will beep three times, signaling that the vehicle has exited programming mode.
  • Step 9: Wait about two minutes before testing the remotes.
  • Step 10: Press the Lock button on a remote to verify that the doors lock and the alarm arms properly.
  • Step 11: Press Unlock once to disarm the alarm and unlock the driver’s door. Press Unlock again to unlock the remaining doors and the rear hatch.
