2003 Subaru Legacy Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 2003 Subaru Legacy supports onboard programming for its keyless entry remote fobs. You can program up to four remotes in one session. Follow the steps below carefully to complete the process successfully.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat. Make sure all doors, including the trunk or liftgate, are fully closed and unlocked.
- Step 2: Open the driver’s door, then close it once.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition. Turn it from the “OFF” position to the “ON” position (so the dashboard lights come on, without starting the engine), then back to “OFF.” Repeat this cycle ten times quickly within 15 seconds.
- Step 4: After the tenth turn, the horn should beep once, indicating the vehicle has entered remote programming mode.
- Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door one more time to continue.
- Step 6: Press any button on the remote fob you wish to program. The horn will beep twice, confirming successful registration.
- Step 7: To add more remotes, open and close the driver’s door again, then press a button on the next remote. The horn will beep twice for each successfully programmed fob. A maximum of four remotes can be programmed.
- Step 8: When all remotes are programmed, remove the key from the ignition. The horn will beep three times to signal the end of programming mode.
- Step 9: Wait approximately two minutes to allow the system to reset before testing the remotes.
- Step 10: Press the Lock button on one of the remotes. The doors should lock, and the alarm system should activate.
- Step 11: Press the Unlock button once to disarm the alarm and unlock the driver’s door. Press Unlock a second time to unlock the remaining doors and the trunk.
