2003 Subaru Outback Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 2003 Subaru Outback supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs. You may register up to four remotes in a single programming session. Follow the steps below closely, ensuring each action is performed within the correct time frame.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and make sure all doors are unlocked.
- Step 2: Open and close the driver’s door once.
- Step 3: With your foot on the brake pedal, insert the key into the ignition. Turn it from the OFF to the ON position (dash lights on, do not start the engine), then back to OFF—ten times rapidly within 15 seconds.
- Step 4: If the sequence was completed correctly, the horn will sound once, indicating the system has entered programming mode.
- Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door one more time.
- Step 6: Press any button on the remote you want to program. The horn will sound twice, confirming the remote has been successfully registered.
- Step 7: To add additional remotes (up to four total), repeat: open and close the driver’s door, then press a button on the next remote. Each successful registration will be acknowledged with two horn beeps.
- Step 8: After all remotes are programmed, remove the key from the ignition. The horn will beep three times, signaling the system has exited programming mode.
- Step 9: Wait approximately two minutes before testing the remotes.
- Step 10: Press the Lock button on a programmed remote. The doors should lock and the alarm system will activate.
- Step 11: Press the Unlock button once to disarm the alarm and unlock the driver’s door. Press it again to unlock the remaining doors and the trunk.
