2003 Toyota Matrix Keyless Entry Remote Fob Smart Key Programming Instructions
Important Notice: The 2003 Toyota Matrix requires specific steps to program the keyless entry remote fob and does not support onboard programming. This procedure must be performed accurately for successful programming.
Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Prepare by ensuring all doors are closed except the driver's door, which should be open and unlocked. Start with the key out of the ignition.
- Step 2: Insert and remove the key from the ignition twice within five seconds without turning the key.
- Step 3: Close and open the driver's door twice within 40 seconds, then insert the key into the ignition and remove it again.
- Step 4: Repeat the door opening and closing step, then insert the key into the ignition, leaving it there. Close the driver's door, turn the ignition to ON (do not start the vehicle), then turn it back to OFF, and remove the key.
- Step 5: Verify entry into programming mode: Within three seconds of removing the key, the power door locks should cycle (lock and then unlock) automatically, indicating successful entry into programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, restart the procedure from Step 1.
- Step 6: Program the remote: Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 seconds. Immediately after releasing, press and hold the lock button on the remote for 2 seconds. The door locks should cycle once if the programming is successful. If they cycle twice, repeat this step. Repeat for any additional remotes.
- Step 7: Finalize programming: Open the driver’s door to exit programming mode and conclude the procedure.
- Step 8: Test all remotes to ensure they operate correctly with all functions of the vehicle's power locks and panic alarm features.
