Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions for the 2003 Toyota Prius
Important Notice: The 2003 Toyota Prius supports onboard programming for standard keyless entry remote fobs. All remotes must be programmed during the same session.
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Begin with the key completely out of the ignition. Ensure the driver’s door is open, all other doors are closed, and the driver’s door is unlocked.
- Step 2: Within 5 seconds, complete the following actions: Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it. Insert the key again (do not turn), then remove it.
- Step 3: Within 40 seconds, proceed with this sequence: Close and then open the driver’s door. Close and then open the driver’s door again. Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it.
- Step 4: Within the next 40 seconds, perform the following steps: Close and then open the driver’s door. Close and then open the driver’s door again. Insert the key into the ignition and leave it in place. Close the driver’s door. Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the vehicle), then return it to the OFF position. Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 5: Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should automatically cycle (lock and unlock once), confirming that the vehicle is in programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, begin the process again from Step 1.
- Step 6: Within 40 seconds, program each remote as follows: Press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 seconds. Release both buttons, then press and hold the LOCK button for 2 seconds. If the door locks cycle once, the remote has been successfully programmed. If the locks cycle twice, the programming failed—repeat Step 6 for that remote.
- Step 7: Repeat Step 6 for any additional remotes you wish to program (up to four total).
- Step 8: Open the driver’s door to exit programming mode.
