Programming Guide for 2004 Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 2004 Mercury Mountaineer supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs using a timed ignition cycle procedure. During this process, all remotes must be programmed together. Any remote not included will be erased from memory and must be reprogrammed.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver's seat and close all doors securely.
- Step 2: Gather all remote fobs you intend to program. Each fob must be programmed during the same session.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition without starting the vehicle.
- Step 4: Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition from the OFF position to the RUN position (do not start the engine) eight times, ending on the eighth cycle with the key in the RUN position. Perform this action quickly and consistently.
- Step 5: After the eighth cycle, the door locks will automatically lock and unlock, indicating the vehicle has entered programming mode.
- Step 6: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first remote fob. The door locks will cycle again, confirming successful programming of the remote.
- Step 7: Press any button on the second remote fob within 20 seconds of programming the first. The locks will cycle again to confirm it has been accepted.
- Step 8: Repeat Step 7 for any additional remote fobs. Each one must be programmed within 20 seconds of the previous.
- Step 9: After all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition to the OFF position.
- Step 10: The door locks will cycle once more, indicating that the vehicle has exited programming mode.
- Step 11: Remove the key from the ignition and test each remote to confirm the lock and unlock functions are working properly.
Additional Considerations: Program all desired remotes during a single session. Any fob not included will be removed from the system’s memory. Follow timing precisely. Delays between steps may cause the system to exit programming mode prematurely. Verify remote batteries are in good condition before starting to prevent failed programming attempts.
