2004 Mitsubishi Outlander – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming for remote fobs. You can register up to four remotes during a single session. Follow the steps below carefully and perform each step in sequence without delay.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 1: Locate the diagnostic port beneath the driver’s side dashboard, typically to the right of the steering column.
  • Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and leave it in the OFF position.
  • Step 3: Identify terminals 1 and 4 on the diagnostic connector. Ensure both have metal contact pins.
  • Step 4: Connect terminals 1 and 4 using a suitable jumper wire. Keep the wire in place throughout the entire programming process. Verify terminal positions to avoid misconnection.
  • Step 5: Within 10 seconds of connecting the jumper wire, press the hazard light switch six times in quick succession. The vehicle’s door locks should lock and unlock once, confirming that it has entered programming mode.
  • Step 6: Within 10 seconds, press the LOCK button on the remote fob you want to program three times. The door locks will cycle once to indicate successful registration.
  • Step 7: If programming additional remotes (up to four in total), repeat Step 6 for each one within one minute. The locks will cycle after each successful programming.
  • Step 8: Once all remotes have been registered, disconnect the jumper wire from the diagnostic port.
  • Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition to exit programming mode.
  • Step 10: Test each remote to confirm proper lock and unlock functionality.
