2004 Subaru Forester Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions
Important Note: This procedure allows you to program remote fobs for locking, unlocking, and alarm system control. Up to four remotes can be programmed during a single session.
Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat. Ensure all doors and the rear hatch are fully closed and unlocked.
- Step 2: Open the driver’s door once, then close it fully.
- Step 3: While pressing the brake pedal, insert the key into the ignition. Turn the key from the OFF position to the ON position (do not start the engine) and back to OFF, a total of ten times rapidly. Make sure to pause briefly at ON so the dashboard lights activate. Complete all ten cycles within 15 seconds.
- Step 4: If done correctly, the horn will sound once, indicating the system has entered programming mode.
- Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door one time.
- Step 6: Press any button on the remote you want to program. The horn will beep twice, confirming successful registration of the remote.
- Step 7: To add more remotes, repeat Step 5 (open and close the driver’s door), then press a button on the next remote. The horn will beep twice again for each successfully added fob. You may program up to four remotes.
- Step 8: Once all remotes are programmed, remove the key from the ignition. The horn will sound three times, indicating the system has exited programming mode.
- Step 9: Wait about two minutes before testing the remotes.
- Step 10: Press the Lock button to ensure the doors lock and the alarm system activates.
- Step 11: Press the Unlock button once to disarm the alarm and unlock the driver’s door. Press Unlock again to unlock all other doors and the rear hatch.
