2004 Subaru Impreza Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Note: You can program up to four keyless entry remotes for your vehicle. Before beginning, ensure all doors—including the trunk or liftgate—are closed and unlocked.

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat. Make sure all doors and the trunk are securely closed and unlocked.
  • Step 2: Open the driver’s door, then close it once.
  • Step 3: Insert the key into the ignition. Quickly turn the key from the OFF position to the ON position and back to OFF ten times in a row. Turn only to the ON position where dashboard lights come on—do not start the engine. This must be done within 15 seconds.
  • Step 4: If done correctly, the horn will sound once, confirming that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
  • Step 5: Open and close the driver’s door once more to continue.
  • Step 6: Press any button on the remote fob you want to program. The horn will sound twice, indicating the remote has been accepted.
  • Step 7: To program additional remotes (up to four total), repeat Step 5 and then press a button on the next remote. Each successful programming will be confirmed by two horn beeps.
  • Step 8: When you are finished programming all remotes, remove the key from the ignition. The horn will sound three times, confirming the vehicle has exited programming mode.
  • Step 9: Wait about two minutes before testing the remotes.
  • Step 10: Press the Lock button to verify that the doors lock and the alarm system activates.
  • Step 11: Press the Unlock button once to disarm the system and unlock the driver’s door. A second press should unlock the rest of the doors and the trunk.
