Important Notice: The 2004 Toyota Avalon supports onboard programming for keyless entry remotes. Follow each step carefully and within the required time limits. Up to four remotes can be programmed during a single session.

Programming Procedure:

  • Step 2: Insert and Remove the Key Twice (Within 5 Seconds) A. Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn it), then remove it. B. Repeat: Insert the key again (do not turn it), then remove it.

  • Step 5: Confirm Entry Into Programming Mode Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle (lock then unlock) to indicate that programming mode has been successfully entered. If the locks do not cycle, restart the procedure from Step 1.
  • Step 6: Program Remote(s) (Within 40 Seconds Per Remote) For each remote: A. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for 1.5 seconds, then release. B. Immediately press and hold the lock button alone for 2 seconds, then release. C. The door locks should cycle once, confirming the remote has been accepted. If the locks cycle twice, the remote was not accepted—repeat steps A and B.
  • Step 7: Exit Programming Mode Repeat Step 6 for any additional remotes. Once all remotes are programmed, open the driver’s door to exit programming mode.

Additional Notes:

  • A maximum of four remotes can be programmed. All remotes must be programmed during the same session. If any step is delayed or skipped, the procedure must be restarted from Step 1.
