Remote Fob Programming Instructions for the 2004 Toyota Matrix
Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming for standard keyless entry remote fobs. Follow the steps below carefully to enter programming mode and pair your remote(s).
Programming Procedure:
- Step 1: Begin with the key removed from the ignition. The driver’s door should be open, all other doors closed, and the driver’s door unlocked.
- Step 2: Within 5 seconds, complete the following actions: Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it. Insert the key again (do not turn), then remove it.
- Step 3: Within the next 40 seconds, perform the following sequence: Close and then open the driver’s door. Close and then open the driver’s door again. Insert the key into the ignition (do not turn), then remove it.
- Step 4: Within another 40 seconds, complete the following steps: Close and then open the driver’s door. Close and then open the driver’s door again. Insert the key into the ignition and leave it in place. Close the driver’s door. Turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine), then turn it back to OFF. Remove the key from the ignition.
- Step 5: Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should automatically cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm that the vehicle has entered programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, restart from Step 1.
- Step 6: Within 40 seconds, program the remote(s) as follows: Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 seconds. Immediately after releasing both buttons, press and hold the LOCK button for 2 seconds. If the door locks cycle once, the remote has been successfully programmed. If they cycle twice, the remote was not accepted—repeat Step 6.
- Step 7: Repeat Step 6 for each additional remote you wish to program (up to four total).
- Step 8: Open the driver’s door to exit programming mode.
