Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Guide – 2004 Toyota Sienna

Important Notice: These instructions are designed for vehicles equipped with a factory-installed keyless entry system and a traditional ignition key. Proper timing and precision are critical. If any step is missed or delayed, the system will not enter programming mode.

Programming Procedure

  • Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle Remove the key from the ignition. Ensure the driver’s door is open, all other doors are closed, and the driver’s door is unlocked. Remain seated in the driver’s seat to maintain quick access to the key and door.
  • Step 2: Insert and Remove the Key Twice (Within 5 Seconds) A. Insert the key into the ignition without turning it, then remove it. B. Repeat once more: Insert the key again, then remove it. Both actions must be completed within 5 seconds.
  • Step 3: Door and Key Actions (Within 40 Seconds) A. Fully close and open the driver’s door once. B. Repeat: Close and open the driver’s door again. C. Insert the key into the ignition without turning it, then remove it. All steps must be completed within 40 seconds.
  • Step 4: Final Preparation for Programming Mode (Within 40 Seconds) A. Fully close and open the driver’s door once more. B. Repeat: Close and open the driver’s door again. C. Insert the key into the ignition and leave it inserted. D. Fully close the driver’s door. E. Turn the ignition key to the ON position (do not start the engine), then turn it back to OFF. F. Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 5: Confirm Entry into Programming Mode Within 3 seconds, the door locks should lock and then unlock automatically. This indicates the system has successfully entered programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, return to Step 1 and repeat the procedure from the beginning. Remote Programming Steps (Must Be Completed Within 40 Seconds Per Remote)
  • Step 6: Program Each Remote A. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 seconds, then release both. B. Immediately press and hold the lock button alone for 2 seconds, then release. C. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should lock and unlock once to confirm successful programming. If the locks cycle twice, the remote was not accepted. Repeat Steps A and B. D. Repeat this process for each additional remote.
  • Step 7: Complete the Process When all remotes have been programmed, open the driver’s door to exit programming mode. Test each remote by locking and unlocking the vehicle from outside to confirm proper function.

Additional Tips & Considerations All Remotes Must Be Programmed Together:

  • Any remote not programmed during this session will no longer function and must be reprogrammed. Maximum Remote Limit: Most systems support up to four remotes. Exceeding this may overwrite earlier entries. Fresh Batteries Required: Ensure each remote has a fully charged battery before starting the process. Timing is Crucial: All actions must be completed quickly and precisely. Delays can cancel the process.
