Programming Guide for 2005 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Cadillac STS
Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming in two scenarios: At least one working transmitter is available No working transmitter is present (U.S. models only) Note for Canadian models: Two recognized transmitters are required for onboard programming due to national immobilizer regulations.
Programming with a Recognized Transmitter: Use this procedure when at least one working remote is available.
- Step 1: Ensure the ignition is completely off.
- Step 2: Have both the currently recognized and new transmitters with you inside the vehicle.
- Step 3: Insert the key into the driver’s side door lock.
- Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
- Step 5: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display “READY FOR FOB #X” (X may be 2, 3, or 4).
- Step 6: Place the new remote into the transmitter pocket inside the center console bin (between driver and passenger seats), with buttons facing forward.
- Step 7: Wait for a confirmation chime. The DIC will either advance to the next fob number or display “MAX # FOBS LEARNED.”
- Step 8: Remove the transmitter and press the UNLOCK button twice.
- Step 9: To add additional remotes, repeat Steps 6 through 8.
Programming without a Recognized Transmitter (U.S. Only): Use this method when no working remotes are available. The process takes approximately 30 minutes.
- Step 1: Make sure the ignition is off.
- Step 2: Insert the new remote into the transmitter pocket inside the center console bin, buttons facing forward.
- Step 3: Insert the vehicle key into the driver’s side door lock.
- Step 4: Turn the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
- Step 5: The DIC will display “OFF-ACCESSORY TO LEARN.”
- Step 6: Press the OFF/ACC ignition button.
- Step 7: The DIC will begin a 10-minute countdown with the message “WAIT 10 MINUTES.”
- Step 8: Once the countdown ends, the DIC will display “OFF-ACCESSORY TO LEARN” again.
- Step 9: Press the OFF/ACC button again.
- Step 10: Wait for another 10-minute countdown.
- Step 11: Repeat the previous step a third time for the final countdown.
- Step 12: After the third countdown, a chime will sound and the DIC will display “READY FOR FOB #1.”
- Step 13: The transmitter is now programmed. Another chime will confirm, and the DIC will advance to “READY FOR FOB #2.”
- Step 14: Remove the transmitter and press the UNLOCK button twice.
- Step 15: Repeat Steps 2 through 14 for up to four remotes.
- Step 16: Once complete, the DIC will display “MAX # FOBS LEARNED” and automatically exit programming mode.
- Step 17: Press UNLOCK on each newly programmed remote to ensure full functionality.
