Programming Guide for 2005 Smart Keyless Entry Remote Fob – Cadillac XLR
Important Notice: The 2005 Cadillac XLR supports onboard programming for remote fobs. You may program up to four remotes using one of the following procedures—depending on whether a recognized transmitter is available.
Programming with a Recognized Transmitter: Use this method if at least one remote already works with the vehicle:
- Step 1: Ensure the vehicle is turned off.
- Step 2: Keep both the currently recognized and new transmitters with you.
- Step 3: At the rear of the vehicle, insert the mechanical key into the lock cylinder located on the lower driver’s side of the rear fascia.
- Step 4: Open the trunk by turning the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
- Step 5: The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display “READY FOR FOB #2” (or #3, #4, depending on how many are already programmed).
- Step 6: Place the new remote into the transmitter pocket located inside the glove box, with the buttons facing to the right.
- Step 7: Wait for the confirmation beep and DIC display indicating the new remote has been accepted.
- Step 8: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button to exit programming mode.
Programming without a Recognized Transmitter: Use this method if you do not have any working remotes. This procedure takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.
- Step 1: Make sure the vehicle is turned off.
- Step 2: Insert the new, unrecognized transmitter into the transmitter pocket inside the glove box (buttons facing right).
- Step 3: At the rear of the vehicle, insert the mechanical key into the lock cylinder on the lower driver’s side of the rear fascia.
- Step 4: Open the trunk by turning the key to the unlock position five times within five seconds.
- Step 5: The DIC will display “OFF-ACC TO LEARN.”
- Step 6: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button on the dashboard.
- Step 7: The DIC will show “WAIT 10 MINUTES” and begin a countdown.
- Step 8: After the countdown ends, the DIC will again display “OFF-ACC TO LEARN.”
- Step 9: Press the OFF/ACCESSORY button again.
- Step 10: Wait for the second 10-minute countdown to complete.
- Step 11: When prompted again, press the OFF/ACCESSORY button a third time.
- Step 12: Complete the final 10-minute countdown.
- Step 13: A beep will sound and the DIC will read “READY FOR FOB #1.” At this point, all previously stored transmitters have been erased.
- Step 14: The newly inserted transmitter is now programmed. A beep will confirm completion and the DIC will prompt “READY FOR FOB #2.”
- Step 15: To program additional remotes, remove the current one from the glove box and insert the next. Wait for the beep and confirmation.
- Step 16: Repeat the process for up to four total remotes.
- Step 17: When programming is complete, press the OFF/ACCESSORY button to exit the programming sequence.
