2005 Honda Insight – Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Notice: When you enter programming mode, all previously stored remote fobs are erased from the system. To avoid losing access, make sure you program all remotes you want to use during the same session. Each step in this process must be completed within 5 seconds of the previous one to prevent the system from exiting programming mode automatically.

Programming Procedure

  • Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON (II) position. Do not start the engine—simply turn the key until the dashboard lights come on.
  • Step 2: Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the remote fob you want to program. This can be a new remote or one that was previously used with the vehicle.
  • Step 3: Turn the ignition to the LOCK (0) position.
  • Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3 two more times, using the same remote fob each time. After the third cycle, you should have completed this sequence a total of three times: ON → button press → OFF. Ensure each cycle is done within 5 seconds of the last.
  • Step 5: On the fourth cycle, turn the ignition to the ON (II) position once again.
  • Step 6: Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the same remote fob. If the programming mode is successfully entered, the door locks will automatically cycle (lock and unlock) as confirmation.
  • Step 7: Within 10 seconds, press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on each additional remote you wish to program. After pressing the button on each remote, the door locks should cycle, confirming that the remote has been accepted. You can register up to the system’s maximum number of remotes (typically 3–4 total).
  • Step 8: Once all remotes are programmed, turn the ignition to the LOCK (0) position to exit programming mode.
  • Step 9: Remove the key from the ignition and close all doors.
  • Step 10: Test each remote to ensure that all buttons—lock, unlock, and any trunk or panic functions—are working correctly.
