2005 Mercury Monterey

Programming Guide for 2005 Keyless Entry Remote Fob

Important Notice: This vehicle supports onboard programming for keyless entry remote fobs using a specific ignition cycle process. All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remote not included during programming will be erased from the system’s memory and will no longer function until reprogrammed.

Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure all doors are fully closed.
  • Step 2: Have all remote fobs you wish to program with you inside the vehicle.
  • Step 3: Insert the ignition key into the ignition switch but do not start the engine.
  • Step 4: Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition from the OFF position to the RUN position eight times, ending with the key in the RUN position on the eighth turn. Perform this step quickly and smoothly.
  • Step 5: After the eighth cycle, the door locks will automatically lock and unlock, confirming the vehicle has entered programming mode.
  • Step 6: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first remote fob. The door locks will cycle again to confirm the remote has been successfully programmed.
  • Step 7: If you have a second remote, press any button on it within 20 seconds of the first. The door locks will cycle again to confirm successful programming.
  • Step 8: Repeat Step 7 for any additional remotes, ensuring each one is programmed within 20 seconds of the last.
  • Step 9: Once all remotes are programmed, turn the ignition to the OFF position.
  • Step 10: The door locks will cycle one final time, indicating the vehicle has exited programming mode.
  • Step 11: Remove the key from the ignition and test each remote to verify that the lock and unlock functions are working correctly.
  • Step 12: If a remote does not function, repeat the full process from Step 1, making sure all timing steps are followed accurately.

Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any fob not included will be deactivated. Precise timing is critical. Delays during ignition cycles or between remote inputs may cancel the programming mode. Ensure all remotes have fresh batteries to guarantee successful programming.
