Programming Guide for 2005 Mercury Sable Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 2005 Mercury Sable allows for onboard programming of keyless entry remote fobs using a timed ignition cycle. All remotes must be programmed during the same session. Any remote not included in the programming will be erased from memory and must be reprogrammed.
Programming Instructions:
- Step 1: Sit in the driver’s seat and ensure that all vehicle doors are securely closed.
- Step 2: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the RUN or ACCESSORY (ACC) position. Do not start the engine.
- Step 3: Within 10 seconds, turn the ignition key from the OFF position to the RUN position eight times, ending on the eighth cycle in the RUN position. The ignition cycles must be performed quickly and smoothly. Once the system enters programming mode, the door locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm that the programming mode is active.
- Step 4: Within 20 seconds, press any button on the first keyless remote fob. The door locks will cycle again to confirm that the first remote has been successfully programmed.
- Step 5: If programming a second keyless remote, press any button on the second remote within 20 seconds of programming the first remote. The door locks will cycle again to confirm that the second remote has been successfully programmed.
- Step 6: After all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition key to the OFF position.
- Step 7: The door locks will cycle one final time, signaling that the programming session has ended.
- Step 8: Remove the key from the ignition and test each remote to ensure that the lock and unlock functions are working properly.
Additional Considerations: All remotes must be programmed together. Any remote not included will no longer function and must be reprogrammed. Timing is crucial. If too much time passes between steps, the system will exit programming mode, and the procedure must be repeated. Check the batteries in each remote fob before starting the procedure to avoid programming failures.
