2005 Subaru Forester Keyless Entry Remote Fob Programming Instructions

Important Note: This process allows you to program remote fobs for door locking, unlocking, and alarm system control. You can register multiple remotes during a single session.

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions:

  • Step 1: If the vehicle is equipped with an alarm system, disarm it before beginning.
  • Step 2: Open the driver’s door, sit in the driver’s seat, and close the door behind you. Ensure that all other doors and the rear hatch remain closed.
  • Step 3: Within 15 seconds, insert the key into the ignition. Turn it from the LOCK position to the ON position and back to LOCK, repeating this cycle ten times rapidly. Do not start the engine. Leave the key in the ignition after the tenth cycle. If performed correctly, the horn will sound once, indicating that the vehicle has entered programming mode.
  • Step 4: Within 45 seconds of hearing the horn: A. Open and close the driver’s door once. B. Press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the remote you wish to program. The horn will sound twice, confirming successful programming.
  • Step 5: To add more remotes, repeat Step 4A and 4B for each additional remote. The horn will beep twice after each remote is successfully programmed.
  • Step 6: When all remotes have been programmed, remove the key from the ignition. The horn will sound three times, indicating the system has exited programming mode.
  • Step 7: Test each remote to confirm proper function for locking, unlocking, and alarm activation.
