Smart Key Remote Fob Programming Guide – 2005 Toyota Sienna

Important Note: These instructions are intended for vehicles equipped with a factory-installed keyless entry system and a traditional metal key ignition. Timing is critical throughout the process. All steps must be performed exactly as described and within the specified time limits.

Programming Procedure

  • Step 1: Initial Setup Ensure the key is out of the ignition. The driver’s door must be open, all other doors closed, and the driver’s door unlocked. Remain seated inside the vehicle to begin the process.
  • Step 2: Key Insertions (Within 5 Seconds) A. Insert the key into the ignition without turning it, then remove it. B. Repeat: insert the key again without turning, then remove it. This step must be completed within 5 seconds.
  • Step 3: Door and Key Cycle (Within 40 Seconds) A. Fully close and then open the driver’s door. B. Repeat: close and open the driver’s door again. C. Insert the key into the ignition once more without turning, then remove it. All three actions must be completed within 40 seconds.
  • Step 4: Programming Mode Activation (Within 40 Seconds) A. Fully close and open the driver’s door again. B. Repeat: close and open the driver’s door one more time. C. Insert the key into the ignition and leave it inserted. D. Close the driver’s door completely. E. Turn the ignition key to the ON position (do not start the engine), then return it to OFF. F. Remove the key from the ignition.
  • Step 5: Confirm Programming Mode Within 3 seconds, the door locks should automatically lock and then unlock. This confirms successful entry into programming mode. If the locks do not cycle, repeat the process from Step 1, ensuring all steps are performed with proper timing. Remote Programming (Complete Each Within 40 Seconds)
  • Step 6: Program Each Remote A. Press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the remote simultaneously for 1.5 seconds, then release. B. Immediately press and hold the lock button alone for 2 seconds, then release. C. Within 3 seconds, the door locks should lock and then unlock once, confirming successful programming. If the locks cycle twice, the remote was not accepted. Repeat steps A and B. D. Repeat this process for each additional remote you wish to program.
  • Step 7: Exit Programming Mode Open the driver’s door to exit programming mode. The vehicle will now recognize all successfully programmed remotes.

Additional Tips and Information All Remotes Must Be Programmed in the Same Session:

  • Any remotes not included during this programming process will no longer function and must be reprogrammed. Maximum Remote Capacity: The system typically supports up to four remotes. Adding more may overwrite earlier ones. Battery Check: Ensure each remote has a fresh battery before programming. Weak signals can lead to failure. Timing Is Crucial: If any step is delayed, the process will fail. Start from Step 1 if needed. Test Functionality: After programming, test each remote to verify lock, unlock, and (if equipped) panic button functions.
