Programming Guide for 2006 Keyless Entry Remote Fob
Important Notice: The 2006 model allows onboard programming of remote fobs using the Driver Information Center (DIC) or the trip odometer reset stem, depending on vehicle configuration. This procedure applies only to remote fobs and does not include ignition or transponder key programming.
If Your Vehicle Has Driver Information Center (DIC) Buttons:
- Step 1: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position. Do not start the engine.
- Step 2: Press the Vehicle Information button repeatedly until the message PRESS TO RELEARN REMOTE KEY appears on the display.
- Step 3: Press the Set/Reset button. The display will change to REMOTE KEY LEARNING ACTIVE to indicate that programming mode is active.
- Step 4: Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the first remote at the same time. Hold both buttons for approximately 15 seconds until a chime sounds, confirming successful programming.
- Step 5: To program additional remotes, repeat Step 4 for each one. A maximum of eight remotes can be programmed.
- Step 6: When finished, turn the key to the OFF position and remove it from the ignition.
- Step 7: Test each remote to verify proper operation.
If Your Vehicle Does Not Have Driver Information Center (DIC) Buttons:
- Step 1: Make sure the vehicle is in Park and insert the key into the ignition. Turn it to the ON position (as far as possible without starting the engine).
- Step 2: Press the trip odometer reset stem repeatedly until the message RELEARN REMOTE KEY appears on the instrument panel.
- Step 3: Press and hold the trip odometer reset stem for approximately three seconds. The message REMOTE KEY LEARNING ACTIVE will display.
- Step 4: On the first remote, press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time for about 15 seconds. Wait for the chime indicating the remote has been programmed.
- Step 5: To program more remotes, repeat Step 4 for each additional remote. Up to eight remotes can be programmed.
- Step 6: When finished, turn the key to the OFF position and remove it from the ignition.
- Step 7: Test all remotes to ensure they function correctly.
Additional Considerations:
Remote Limit: The system supports up to eight keyless entry remotes.
Battery Check: Ensure that each remote has a fully charged battery before beginning the programming process.
Ignition Key Programming: This procedure does not apply to ignition keys. The ignition key requires professional programming using diagnostic tools.
If Unsuccessful: If a remote does not respond during programming, restart the process from Step 1.
